Progress Software’s Rob Steward Demystifies Data Services at Enterprise Data World

Expert Presentation on Turning Real-Time Data Visibility into Competitive Advantage to Benefit Information Management Professionals

Bedford, MA
17-Mar-2010

Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading independent enterprise software provider that enables companies to be operationally responsive, today announced its participation at the Enterprise Data World (EDW) conference taking place March 14-18, 2010 in San Francisco at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. Rob Steward, vice president of research and development for Progress DataDirect, will lead a session on the potential for real-time data to make a significant impact on business insight or competitive advantage.  Steward is responsible for the development and oversight of the company’s connectivity products such as the Progress® DataDirect Shadow® mainframe integration suite of software, and the Progress® DataDirect Connect® family of database drivers and data providers.

“The data in many corporations is fragmented – each department’s information exists in silos, and often in multiple formats,” said Steward. “This becomes an issue, for example, when a customer service representative gets on the phone to troubleshoot a problem with a customer. Without access to a complete view of the customer’s past interactions with the company, the service rep is not fully equipped to answer questions and provide a quality service experience. Having real-time access to data can increase the effectiveness of interactions like this, and provide significant value company-wide.”

Steward’s session will discuss the concept of Data Services, and how it addresses the current strain corporate IT departments are feeling when responding to business requests for real-time data using traditional approaches to data integration, such as ETL and data replication.  The inability of these current approaches to meet the needs for agility and speed are driving a new approach: Real-Time Data Services. Steward will explain how the real-time data service model works, how it differs from master data management and other current approaches of information management, and how it can make a significant impact on a business’ ability to be operationally responsive.
