DataDirect Shadow Mainframe JCA Driver

The Shadow z/Direct JCA client driver allows distributed application platforms to access mainframe resources, including relational and non-relational data sources such as Adabas, CICS, DB2, IMS, IDMS, Natural, VSAM.

Through its JCA and JDBC Drivers, Shadow provides advanced and comprehensive support for the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform.

The Shadow z/Direct JCA client driver provides:

  • Allows J2EE compliant application/integration servers to access mainframe datasources
  • Supports system contracts in the JCA 1.5 release specification
  • XA Two phase commit (2PC)
  • Asynchronous integration with EISs - Java Enterprise Connector Architecture 1.0 supports a synchronous request/reply model from a J2EE server to an EIS. This specification will add support for bi-directional, asynchronous interactions between a J2EE server and resource adapters. This feature may require enhancement of the existing Connector system contracts and addition of new system contracts
  • JMS Provider Pluggability - support for integration of a JMS provider into a J2EE server. This feature will enable one or more JMS providers to be plugged into any J2EE server that supports the J2EE Connector Architecture 1.5. This feature may require enhancement of the existing Connector system contracts and addition of new system contracts
  • Distributed Security Support - integration with Windows Operating System security for single sign-on

Comprehensive Administration via Shadow Studio

Shadow's Studio provides outstanding diagnostic and control facilities and offer users a single, integrated solution to identify, diagnose and correct data connectivity issues between distributed ODBC, JDBC and JCA client drivers and mainframes. For automatic problem resolution, Shadow allows administrators to establish actions that will be implemented when preset performance thresholds are exceeded; ensuring problem conditions that can affect availability are immediately corrected.

Shadow and JCA

The combined strengths of Shadow and the Shadow z/Direct JCA client driver enable application platform suites and enterprise information systems to access a variety of data sources in mainframe environments. Developers can rapidly build platforms with high performance, scalability, manageability and control capabilities. This powerful development environment can be rapidly leveraged into new and unique mainframe integration efforts.
