DataDirect Shadow Mainframe JDBC Driver

The Shadow z/Direct JDBC client driver extends the reach of Java applications through access and integration with multiple mainframe data sources including Adabas, CICS, DB2, IMS, Natural, VSAM and others.

The Shadow z/Direct JDBC client driver provides:

  • Easy-To-Implement Connectivity - provides rapid connectivity and productivity by allowing applications that use JDBC to access z/OS resources
  • Stored Procedures - client driver provides support for the stored procedures in DB2 and Shadow's remote procedures enable JDBC applications to call Java, COBOL, C/C++, P1/I, or Assembler programs that access DB2 as well as other mainframe data sources
  • XA Two phase commit (2PC)
  • Dynamic-To-Static - Static SQL can dramatically reduce CPU utilization while improving DB2 response time. Shadow's Dynamic-to-Static (DTS) technology brings users significant performance improvements for access to DB2 under z/OS
  • Static SQL - Shadow enables Java developers to write to the JDBC API and still exploit the benefits of Static SQL
  • Distributed Security Support - integration with Windows Operating System security for single sign-on
  • Write Once/Run Anywhere - exploits the Java platform's "write once, run anywhere" capabilities by providing JDBC access to the mainframe environment from multiple platforms, including Windows 2000; IBM AIX; HP-UX; Sun Solaris; Linux; and z/OS Unix System Services

Portability and Scalability
For more than a decade, Shadow has helped customers integrate application platform suites with mainframe data and transactions. The Shadow z/Direct JDBC client driver leverages this experience and reflects the critical balance between Java portability and the scalability required by organizations today.

Comprehensive Administration via Shadow Studio
Shadow Studio provides outstanding diagnostic and control facilities and offer users a single, integrated solution to identify, diagnose and correct data connectivity issues between distributed ODBC, JDBC and JCA client drivers and mainframes. For automatic problem resolution, Shadow allows administrators to establish actions that will be implemented when preset performance thresholds are exceeded; ensuring problem conditions that can affect availability are immediately corrected.
