Adabas Database Support
Direct SQL Access to Valuable Mainframe Data
Employing the Progress DataDirect industry-standard ODBC, JDBC, and ADO.NET database drivers, Progress DataDirect Shadow provides developers with direct SQL access to valuable non-relational Adabas data.
Shadow’s high-performance set of call-level interfaces extracts Adabas data definitions and schema information from a variety of places to create standard relational metadata maps. With Shadow, organizations leave mainframe data in place and avoid the cost of data replication or migration, ultimately relying on the mainframe as a true enterprise data server.
- Makes underlying mapping transparent to the developer who simply codes standard SQL calls
- At runtime, translates the standard SQL from the ODBC, JDBC and ADO.NET client driver into the appropriate calls for the underlying database
- Enables any integration-related processing for Adabas data mapping and transformation running through Shadow to be diverted away from the mainframe’s General Purpose Processor to the IBM zIIP specialty engine
- Lowers MIPS capacity usage and reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
- Exploits native Adabas performance features, including Adabas syntax, file level security, database constructs and operations, data types, and file security
- Supports Adabas SAF security, reducing the complexity of integrating Adabas security with standard mainframe security products and simplifying the use of RACF, ACF2, and CA-Top Secret
